On September 20, 2017, the UNIAN Press Center announced the beginning of the Ukrainian competition "The Best initiatives of women of Ukraine for economic development of local communities".
European Assembly of Women Deputies in partnership with the International Embassy of Women Entrepreneurs and the Ukrainian Association of Women Deputies, funded by the Ministry of International Affairs of Canada through the Association of Cities of Ukraine and the International Project “Partnership for Urban Development" implemented by the Federation Canadian municipalities, are conducting a competition of the best women's initiatives in Ukraine, which have become important for the economic development of local communities (cities, towns, districts). Winners will be selected in 5 categories. The authors of the Top 5 Women's Initiatives will be awarded a week-long study trip to the European Parliament. The completion of the project and the announcement of the results of the competition will be held in the Verkhovna Rada in November 2017 and will be held simultaneously with an international art exhibition dedicated to womanhood.
Anastasia Popsui, a deputy of the Irpin City Council and President of the European Assembly of Women Deputies, announced the conditions for participation in the competition and the relevance of the project. The project is aimed at strengthening the economic development of Ukrainian communities, including by enhancing the role of women in this process. Women do a lot of important things every day for the development of the state, but sometimes they lack confidence and a sense of support.
Oksana Bilozir, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Head of the Ukrainian Union of Women Deputies, stressed that she initiated the issue of equal opportunities in 2002, bringing together women with different political backgrounds. Successful women usually don’t simply achieve their goals, but their example inspires a lot of new initiators in various fields of social activity.
Olena Masorina, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and founder of the Assistance Fund “Volunteer Hundred Army “Ukraine-World”, said that the competition should reflect women's real activism in politics, business, public life or science. Ukraine is getting closer to Europe in terms of participation and success of women's initiatives, but there is still work to be done to better realize its colossal women's potential for the good of the state.
